Karoo Origins Launches “Origins” Exhibition

On Thursday evening, 7 August, Karoo Origins – The Fossil Centre proudly unveiled Origins: An Exploration of Natural History through Botanical Art, a remarkable exhibition that intertwines science, storytelling and the intricate beauty of botanical illustration.

Guests were welcomed into an atmosphere alive with curiosity and creativity and were treated to a thought-provoking introduction by Chris Lochner, resident artist at the renowned Grootbos Florilegium, alongside Penelope Goemans, communications expert from the Grootbos Foundation.

Their engaging presentation offered rich context to the works on display, emphasising the vital role botanical art plays in preserving and communicating our natural heritage.

The event drew a wonderful turnout, with visitors immersing themselves in both the Karoo’s deep geological past and its vibrant present-day biodiversity. Through each carefully rendered illustration, Origins celebrates the interconnectedness of life, inviting viewers to see nature not just as a subject of study, but as a source of enduring inspiration.

Karoo Origins extends heartfelt thanks to all who attended this special occasion, making the evening a true celebration of nature, history, and creativity.
