Karoo Origins Fossil Centre

EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH

Inspiring the Next generation of scientists

Whilst the Centre caters to the needs of the general public, a key focus area is our learner outreach programme for youngsters from schools in the area and across the country.

Here, budding palaeontologists and young people with an interest in where we come from, can benefit from tours and information sharing sessions. The Centre itself has a classroom able to seat 35 people and for bigger groups, the adjacent John Rupert auditorium also serves as a lecture theatre from which to run educational programmes.

Palaeontology and evolution form a component of the national school curriculum. An understanding of the development of life on earth and the evolution of ecological systems is essential for learners to appreciate the importance of conserving biodiversity for a sustainable future for humanity.
The Centre can play a critical role in providing young minds with information on these important topics.
